Increasing Independence - Part One
This two-part series will focus on principles of instruction and strategies paraprofessionals can use to foster independence in the classroom and throughout the school day. Part One focuses on stages of learning, the instructional process and the paraprofessional’s role in facilitating student independence.
Increasing Independence - Part Two
This two-part series will focus on principles of instruction and strategies paraprofessionals can use to foster independence in the classroom and throughout the school day. Part two focuses on strategies to promote self-determination through building choice-making, organizational and self-monitoring skills; and using appropriate levels of cues and prompts.
Response to Instruction and Intervention: What Paraprofessionals Need to Know
This training will provide an overview of the Response to Instruction and Intervention (RtII) process as it relates to mathematics instruction. Participants will explore instructional strategies and their role in the RTII process.
Social Skills for Secondary Students
This training will focus on the paraprofessional's role in assisting secondary students to develop appropriate social skills. The presentation will focus on behavior issues common to secondary level students and strategies to support their needs.
Teaching to the PA Core Standards: A Primer for Paraprofessionals
What are the Pennsylvania Core Standards and how do they apply to you in your role as a Special Education Paraprofessional? This session will describe what the Pennsylvania Core Standards are and build connections between the standards and supporting students with IEPs to achieve in the general education curriculum.
Understanding Disabilities: Paraprofessionals in the Classroom
This training will provide an overview of the major disability categories and the diversity of characteristics and learning needs of students who receive special education services. Presenters will emphasize the need to design supports for students as individuals, rather than based on a disability label.
